I dropped a poll in last week’s newsletter so that you could have a chance to help me make a decision about the future of this newsletter.
During my time publishing at the Raven’s Writing Desk, there are two series that were started but never completed, and I wanted to know which one you’d rather see revived. The consensus, both here and on Twitter, was the Jude series.
The other series was on the works of Jane Austen, which many of you also wanted to see further additions to—one of you even suggested that I merge the two, writing the Jude Series in the style of Mr Collins!—and I’d like to assure you that I will return to Longbourn, Mansfield, and Northanger Abbey at some point, but that I’ll be spending the majority of my time over the next year in the book of Jude.
My plan is to release 2/3 articles a month in this series, with a number of one-off articles and book reviews filling up the remaining slots. I’m anticipating writing one article a week, as I’ve done since January of this year, although there may be occasional bonus articles here and there.
If you have any questions about Jude, or you would like me to write about a specific topic on one of the ‘off-weeks’, please do leave a comment below.
It really helps.
Lastly, rather than continuing where I left off with Jude, I’ve decided to start again from scratch. I’ve learned a lot since then, and I hope that my writing has gotten better too. In addition, I doubt many—if any!—of you remember where the series left off, and there’s about a 90% chance that you weren’t even subscribed back then. With that in mind, I’ll be releasing these as though they were chapters of a serialised book (inspired by
, you should really check out her novel.)I’ll take the opportunity to answer questions along the way too, and maybe even record a couple of videos if you would find that helpful.
I’ll be releasing the introduction to the book on Thursday next week (18th April 2024) so keep an eye out for that.
Have a blessed Sunday.
Grace and Peace,
Adsum
Articles of the Week
TGC and Affinity dropped the news this week that TGC(UK) will be starting up in the near future and that they are currently looking for partners to join them on that journey. The news received decidedly negative responses, many of which were fair, but in a bonus article this week I advised some caution with the hope that the church in the UK could use this opportunity to grow in unity.
is one of the best examples of gentle strength out there. He’s a dancing dad, a prayerful pastor, and yet still finds time to face down heavy machinery in his spare time. His work is always worth your time and attention: is an important voice in the church, providing a careful look at the place of singleness within the body of Christ. Earlier this month Dani wrote some helpful advice about balancing our view of what some have called the singleness epidemic the church, advising caution and wisdom rather than swift, potentially foolish advice that might cause more trouble down the line. Not an article, but helpful all the same, Gavin Ortlund provides some much needed wisdom for helping us to understand how to come alongside those who suffer. As someone with long-term conditions myself, I resonated with most of this, with just a couple of exceptions.
Thank you for including me!
I love this idea to serialized your study of Jude! What a great idea! I can’t wait to read it.
